Samsung won’t give up on Bada, no matter what the world think of it. Quite the contrary, the Korean giant plans to “significantly” increase its investment in its own mobile OS and pitch it as an alternative to Android.
According to Sammy’s Juha Park (senior vice president of product strategy), Bada is a “good platform to build on” and the company wants to have a “full range of portfolio for Bada, from high-end to mass-volume segments.”
Last year, Samsung moved between 8 and 9 million Bada phones, which is an increase from 2 million units shipped in 2010. However, that’s like nothing compared to all Samsung Android smartphones sold. In that sense, we’re not surprised to learn that Android devices will remain the “bigger part” of Samsung’s smartphone lineup.
Finally, it’s also worth adding that as part of its multi-OS strategy Samsung will also introduce smartphones and tablet computers using Windows.
And in case you forgot, the Korean company sold 97 million smartphones in 2011.
