Global internet usage through mobile devices, excluding tablets, is doubling every year. According to StatCounter, as of January 2012, the mobile Internet access accounted for 8.5%, which is up from 4.3% a year before. Moreover, in January 2010, the figure was at 1.6%, which again is more than double than in 2009 – 0.7%. StatCounter’s CEO Aodhan Cullen describes the pace of growth with a word “remarkable” and we really have nothing to add to it.
When it comes to manufacturers, Nokia is leading the world, most likely thanks to its huge user base in India. Apple is second globally, though leading in the US and UK. Interestingly enough (at least I find it interesting), RIM is second to Apple in the UK.
We don’t know how the future will look like, but we’re free to make some forecasts. For instance, it’s safe to assume Android will continue to grow rapidly, prompting more and more users to access mobile Internet services. Moreover, Samsung will find its spot in the top 10 lists across markets throughout the world…
