Microsoft to block corporate iPad purchases by sales and marketing employees

According to a report from Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, Microsoft’s Sales, Marketing, Services, IT, & Operations Group (SMSG) has a new policy that blocks the purchase of iPads and Macs by employees using corporate funds. The alleged email from SMSG CFO Alain Crozier says,

Within SMSG we are putting in place a new policy that says that Apple products (Mac & iPad) should not be purchased with company funds.

In the US we will be turning off the Apple products from the Zones Catalog next week, which is the standard purchasing mechanism for these products.

This change isn’t expected to effect a lot of people as not many of the 46,000 employees in the group use corporate cash to buy Apple products. It’s not a ban on Apple products, but a gentle reminder that Microsoft employees should use Microsoft money to buy Microsoft products.
