Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for HTC Vivid significantly boosts performance

The HTC Vivid is one of the first smartphones in the US to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on AT&T and while most users will be content by being on the latest version of the OS, they’ll likely be more than happy with the vast performance increase.

The guys over at VentureBeat put the newly updated HTC Vivid through a handful of benchmark tests and the optimizations within Ice Cream Sandwich yielded better results in each test. Collectively, the update looks to have increased overall performance of the handset by 66%, and that’s something to get excited about.

Below are some of the benchmarks taken with the Vivid

The Vivid is just one of the many phones AT&T plans to update to Ice Cream Sandwich and it will be interesting to see how much of a performance increase the other handsets will receive once updated. While we can thank most of the performance increase in the Vivid to Ice Cream Sandwich, the update also brought along the updated Sense UI and we’re sure HTC has come up with their own optimizations for its handset as well.

Benchmarks and performance increases notwithstanding, we’re just glad to see that Android 4.0 is no longer completely limited to a select few handsets and that it will soon be rolling out to more and more phones in the coming months.

If you’re rocking a HTC Vivid in your pocket, have you seen a noticeable change in the performance of your phone?
