Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet line delayed until late April

Perhaps you can recall the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet line that the aforementioned vendor announced in February and promised to ship in March. Today is April 3rd. Still no Galaxy Tab 2. Samsung finally confirmed today the tablet will be delayed all the way until the end of April, but it is still coming.

Though specific details were not provided regarding why this delay is taking place, a representative did state that Samsung needs more time than originally anticipated to ensure Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich works smoothly on both tablets — that is the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) and Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1). Quite a mouthful. Presumably for similar reasons, Samsung pushed back the Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Galaxy Note smartphone owners to Q2 2012 from the initially promised Q1 release.

The Galaxy Tab 2 line’s specs will remain mostly unchanged from its preceding devices. It features a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 3MP rear camera and VGA front camera for video calling. Like before, it comes in two flavors: one with a 10.1-inch 1280×800 resolution display and the other with a 7-inch 1024×600 resolution display. The main differences here seems to be that they will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and have a slightly altered design. The general lack of hardware might disappoint some. On the other hand, if the shoe fits…

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on what could be one of the leading Android tablets in 2012 (although I suppose that doesn’t really say much) you can hope Samsung sticks with its word this time for a release in late April. Otherwise, you may want to reconsider that burning hot, super thick and heavy new iPad.
