Viigo Updates Local Interests

After finishing up a revamp on their Sports channel, Viigo is now updating their Local Interest channel with latest information on local traffic, emergency services, transit, and Craigslist classifieds. Previously Kijiji was the only local listing in the free app for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry, and Craigslist was available through the News and RSS channel, so this is a pretty significant upgrade to the channel.

Traffic reports from major UK and US areas are available, while Craigslist will let you stay up to date with a wide variety of classifieds in Canadian and US cities. Most emergency news alerts are nothing more than Twitter RSS feeds unfortunately, but earthquake, hurricane and storm warnings all seem a little more official. Transit info is limited to the Toronto TTC, but as proof of concept, maybe some other transit services will get in touch with Viigo to get integrated. Personally, I’ll find it hard to use anything other than Google Maps for my transit directions.

As always, Viigo brings a lot to the table for being absolutely free – RSS feeds, weather, travel info, and entertainment. Also, the Invite a Friend contest has been extend until the end of January, so if you want a chance to win a free iPod Touch, download the app and invite some friends! Interested? The new Local Interest section is available in the latest version, so hit up http://getviigo.com/intomobile on your mobile browser to download Viigo.
