Telefónica Digital and EA Mobile have teamed-up to allow Telefónica’s customers all around the world to get mobile games for less. Under the plan, O2 UK will be the first to offer its customers three months of free access to all EA Mobile games following their first download. It is then examining a number of potential promotions or special “gaming subscription” services to offer customers. And if everything goes as planned, this or some similar scheme will expand to other Telefónica markets.
According to IHS Screen Digest, mobile gaming is set for boom, fueled by rapid expansion in 3G, smartphone and tablet adoption. When put in numbers, the global mobile games market will be worth almost 8 billion GBP (about 9 billion EUR) by 2015, almost double the figure from 2011…
I like the idea of such subscription services that allow customers to get more games for less as long as they’re paying (usually) a small amount every month. We’ll see whether enough users dig that, too.
