Yahoo took everyone by surprise and introduced a new web browsing experience called Axis. Yahoo Axis has both a desktop component that’ll work with most major browsers and a mobile component that’s compatible with the iPhone and iPad. Users with both the desktop and mobile version can sync their searches and Axis homepage between devices.
With Axis, Yahoo is placing a strong emphasis on visual search results. The product lets you search for a term and pull up a thumbnail preview of a website result. You can find what you’re looking for without having to scan through lines and lines of text. Similar to most modern browsers, Axis lets you preview possible search results as you type in your search term, and supports trending terms that’ll bring up the most popular content quickly.
Axis is available as a stand-alone browser for the iPhone and iPad. On the desktop, Axis uses a browser plug-in so you can search using Axis’s visual search engine within your favorite browser. There’s a demo video embedded below and you can find out more about Axis on Yahoo’s website.
