Some school you never heard of is giving their students “free” Nokia Windows Phones

Seton Hall University, which is about 15 miles away from New York City, it announcing that the entire class of 2016 will get a Nokia Lumia 900 for “free”. I say “free” because according to Seton’s website, they charge $16,350 per semester to educate full-time undergraduate students. That’s $32,700 per year. Considering AT&T will sell you an unsubsidized Lumia 900 for $450, that means parents should be incredibly pleased to know that they’re getting a 0.34 percent discount when it comes to the investment they’re making into their child’s future. Because Seton is a private University, they have no problem raping your wallet.

Montclair State University, which according to Google Maps is 10 miles away from Seton University, is a public university. They charge $3,844.87 per semester to enlighten full-time undergraduate students. To put it another way, four years at Montclair will cost less than one year at Seton. With that savings, parents can buy their kid whatever kind of phone they want, four years of service on the most expensive plan AT&T/Verizon offers, an iPad, that new MacBook Pro with the Retina Display, and a used car.

Look, technology is great when it comes to helping young people learn new things, but sometimes you simply have to go old school and just put all the desks in a circle and engage in an hour long conversation with the professor and fellow students in the room. When you do that, you really don’t need a 4G LTE Windows Phone that has one touch access to Bing, Facebook, and Twitter.

And if you’re a student reading this, then let me tell you right now that once you leave the comfort of the quad, no one really cares about where you studied, what you studied, and how much you paid for that piece of paper with your name on it.

Don’t believe me? Ask some of your older friends.
