iOS App Display Recorder lets you capture video of your screen

There’s a new app in town, and it lets you do something many users have been longing for. Display Recorder, the helpfully named application for iOS allows users to capture video of the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. In addition to video, Display recorder also records the audio output from your iDevice, as well as any voiceover you’d like to do.

Personally, Display Recorder can help me in a number of ways. I generally get asked by my iPhone and iPad-carrying friends about how to do things in certain applications. With Display Recorder, I can videotape myself doing the activity in question with a guided voice tutorial, then upload that video to YouTube to share with them and whoever else may be interested. Along a similar vein, I sometimes do app reviews, and generally have to record video and audio with a DSLR and worry about ensuring the camera is always in focus while simultaneously coming up with something to say. Display Recorder removes the need for a camera and would allow me to talk through what I’m showing you without needing to be managing five tasks at once.

Obviously that’s just me and a few of my use cases, but I’m sure you guys can think of multiple ways Display Recorder might be helpful for you. Early reports suggest that the application works particularly well on the iPhone, but can sometimes be wonky on the iPad. We’re sure any bugs will be squashed out in a future software update.

If this isn’t the first time you’ve heard of Display Recorder, you’d be correct. A version of Display Recorder for jailbroken iDevices has been available on the Cydia App Store for some time now, and the developer of the Cydia Display Recorder has filed an official complaint with Apple claiming that the application on the approved App Store is not his, despite the approved application using the same marketing as his application.

App Store complaint issues aside, Display Recorder is currently available on the App Store for $1.99, and has a 3 star rating with 50 reviews thus far. If you do purchase Display Recorder, be sure to give us your initial impressions of the application in the comments below.
