Draw Something will soon be jumping from smartphones to TV screens, with CBS securing the rights to make a pilot based on the popular drawing game. Despite the game’s declining popularity — though it still has millions of users — CBS had to compete with other media companies for the privilege, including Sony Pictures Television, Embassy Row and Ryan Seacrest Prods.
It is said that the upcoming show will follow the Pictionary-esque format of divining words from drawings, and will also include a studio audience, some celebrities, and a cash prize for winners. Moreover, folks watching the show from their homes will be able to play along using their smartphone and/or tablets.
Sounds like fun and also like a big win for Zynga, which stock isn’t performing as well as investors had hoped. Hopefully this licensing deal with CBS will help get the social gaming company back to the track…
