Terry Gou is the CEO of Foxconn, the Chinese company that builds Apple’s iPhones, along with products for many other electronics companies. Earlier this week, at Foxconn’s annual shareholder meeting, Gou said that the next iPhone “will put Samsung’s Galaxy III to shame.” Sadly, he didn’t go into any further detail. Though let’s be honest, he’s the CEO of the company that makes the world’s most popular smartphone. Why would he do anything to harm that relationship?
So why is Guo so confident about the next iPhone? We’ve all seen the images and videos floating around of what’s supposedly going to be the sixth generation iPhone. It’s nothing more than the iPhone 4/4S, but a little bit longer. We’d even go so far as to call it ugly since the back of the device is two tone. Anyway, comparing today’s premier Android device with an as yet to be announced Apple product is quite possibly the easiest way to open ourselves up to attacks from trolls, so we’re not going to go there.
Let’s talk about Foxconn’s relationship with Sharp instead. Back in March of this year Foxconn bought a 10% stake in Sharp for a cool $808 million. Gou says that combining his company’s strengths with Sharp’s advanced technology will easily put them 3 years ahead of Samsung. Strangely enough, Sharp is opening up a factory in less than two weeks that specializes in 60 inch and 80 inch HDTV panels. Does that mean Apple is going to enter the TV market? That rumor has been brewing for what feels like over a decade, so again, we’re not going to go there.
All we know is that with every passing year Samsung manages to outdo themselves and impress us with their latest and greatest components. Apple meanwhile puts almost all their focus on software. We’re hoping Foxconn’s CEO knows something we don’t about a potentially kick ass hardware feature that will make the iPhone leap frog everything that’s due to come out this holiday shopping season.
