Rumor: The successor to the LG Optimus 4X is apparently coming in September

The term “quad core” immediately brings two devices to mind: Samsung’s Galaxy S III and HTC’s One X. That has LG pretty pissed off. They were the first company to announce a quad core smartphone, the Optimus 4X, but it took them quite a few months to get it on store shelves. What’s worse is now that the 4X is out there, people are ignoring it. Why? The software is a bit iffy, the battery life is relatively poor, and it’s priced similarly to the far superior handsets we mentioned at the beginning of this article.

So what’s LG going to do to get people excited about their wares? According to a report from the South Korean publication Chosun Ilbo, LG will release a smartphone in September that will make the Optimus 4X look like a toy. It’s going to have a new processor that was developed by LG themselves known as “L9”. Details are scarce on this chip, but we do know it’s going to be of the quad core variety. The camera is also set to be “greater than 10 megapixels”. Translate that as you will. The report goes on to say that this mysterious device was ordered to be made by none other than Koo Bon-moo, LG’s CEO, because he was fed up that the company wasn’t taking advantage of all their technical expertise.

Seeing as how September is just two months away, we’re obviously going to recommend you steer clear of the Optimus 4X. And even if we haven’t heard of this unannounced device we’d still be saying the same thing since the Galaxy S III is clearly a superior product.

We hope LG can get their act together and release an amazing handset. It’s incredibly tiring watching them struggle to compete with their arch nemesis Samsung. The market needs more competition, and LG has thus far failed to deliver.

They’re close though. Closer than they’ve ever been in recent memory.
