Thanks to the Canadian ninjas at MobileSyrup, we know how much Rogers Wireless will ask for the soon-to-be-launched Sony Xperia ion. The powerful smartphone will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board with Ice Cream Sandwich update coming later in the year. We’ve no idea when it will get Jellybean though we think that “later in the year” phrase also applies here.
But we should talk about the price here, right? Those willing to commit on a way-too-long three-year contract with Rogers will be able to get Sony’s most-powerful Android smartphone announced to date for just $49.99. If you, however, don’t like putting your signature on such a long customer agreement — and we don’t blame you — you can always get just the phone for $549.99 and then use it with any plan you want, prepaid included.
Again, the Xperia ion rocks a 12-megapixel camera on the back, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 3G/4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, front-facing camera, and all other bells and whistles you would expect from a high-end device.
