Earlier this week, Samsung removed the local search function from the international version of the S III handset and then later confirmed that this removal was a mistake. On Friday, the manufacturer issued another update that restored this functionality and brought some stability improvements to the handset. The update is 5MB and is available over-the-air for international S III handset owners.

Local search is a feature that’s under scrutiny in an infringement case between Apple and Samsung. It lets customers search local content on the phone using the Google search app. Apple sued Samsung over this feature and won a preliminary injunction against the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1. In response this case, Samsung preemptively removed local search from the US models of its Galaxy S III handset.
