U.S. Cellular launches the Motorola Electrify 2 and Defy XT

Today U.S. Cellular is launching two Motorola Android phones that’ll hit stores this week, the Motorola ELECTRIFY 2 and DEFY XT. Now allow us to breakdown both of these mid-range handsets.

The Motorola ELECTRIFY 2 features a 4.3-inch qHD display and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. What customers will notice is Motorola’s trademark kevlar backing and splash guard coating to reduce damage caused by spills. It also has an 8 megapixel camera that shoots 1080p HD video and an LED flash to go with it. Furthermore, the device is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it sports 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a 1780mAh battery.

The rugged version of the two (the DEFY XT) carries some average specs and features as well. For instance, it’s water-resistant, dustproof, and has a scratch-resistant 3.7-inch touchscreen. It also rocks a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and VGA front-facing camera for video chat. Now for the disappointment, the DEFY XT ships with an outdated version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Other notable specs include a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and a 1650mAh battery.

The large regional wireless provider will begin selling the ELECTRIFY 2 on August 2, while the DEFY XT will go on sale this Friday. These aren’t the best phones on the market, but it’s not too bad of a solution for people who are stuck on a carrier who doesn’t have the greatest batch of handsets.

If you’re currently on U.S. Cellular, tell us if these two new offerings cut it for you?
