Sony announced that it will be releasing a dark silver version of the Xperia S, which is the company’s flagship device at the moment. The Xperia S isn’t the only handset expected to get a color change, as Samsung plans to release a black version of its Galaxy S III. Sony deserves props for trying to switch things up in such a watered-down and bland market of white and black phones. The dark silver on the Xperia S is really black/carbon, and to be honest, it looks quite pleasant (as you can see in the picture above).
The biggest is with this new phone color is its availability. Sony didn’t reveal when folks could expect this baby to hit the market, instead, all we got is a “keep [our] eyes peeled” message in its press release. Besides the mysterious intrigue of this black/carbon version, the device is pretty solid. Allow for me to refresh your memory. Specs on the Xperia S include a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 display (which packs 341.5 PPI (pixels per inch)), 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 32GB built-in storage, a 12 MP Exmor R camera, NFC and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
In all honesty, the Xperia S isn’t so bad. If only Sony could stay on this design path with all its devices — folks would actually start taking them more serious. On a side note, Sony should come up with a trendier logo. I say ditch all these logos and bring back the Sony Walkman alien mascot, but use his head and face as the new logo instead.
