According to AhHa Insights, weight loss and exercise apps are the most heavily downloaded health titles among US users, comprising 60% of total downloads. iPhone owners use their apps more often, with the performance of the top 150 apps in the AppStore “far outpacing” the performance of the top 150 Android titles. The research company also noted that iPhone users are seven times more likely to pay for a mobile healthcare app than their Android counterparts.
Aside from weight loss and exercise, which accounted for 39% and 21% of downloads respectively, other popular categories include women’s health (8%), sleep and meditation (6%), and pregnancy (6%).
In terms of available apps, exercise was the most popular category (34%), followed by reference (11%), weight loss (10%), sleep and meditation (9%), and women’s health (7%). Furthermore, exercise and weight loss are also among the top three categories for paid apps, although sleep and meditation finds itself in second place…
