In case you had any doubt that the next iPhone would support the advanced 4G LTE networks, a CNET report today suggests that Korean carriers SK Telecom and KT are in talks with Apple to carry the LTE-equipped iPhone later this year. The companies are working with Apple to ensure that the frequencies these carriers use for their LTE networks are included as supported frequencies on the next iPhone, which could prove to be no small task for Apple to accomplish. Implementing a single device with support for multiple LTE networks is trickier than supporting multiple 3G bands, as different carriers around the world use multiple different frequencies for LTE.
Still, the fact that these carriers are even asking Apple to provide support for LTE strongly suggests that Apple’s next iPhone will include an LTE chip. Nothing is certain until Apple unveils the next iPhone (currently rumored for September 12th), though we expect LTE is pretty much a given at this point.
