Instagram 3.0 introduces Photo Maps, redesigned uploader and profiles

It doesn’t seem like too long ago that Instagram unveiled version 2.0 of its popular photo sharing app with a redesigned UI for snapping pictures, but the team has been hard at work and almost a year after that update, version 3.0 just hit Google Play and the App Store. With it comes a new feature called Photo Maps, plus plenty of other smaller improvements.

The new Photo Maps display all of your geotagged photos on a map and act as another way to browse your photos. By default everyone can see this map, but if you have a private account, only your approved followers can see it. You’ll also have to go through a quick review process when you first update to Instagram 3.0 to choose the photos you want to have on display, which you can edit at any time in the future. To access your or anyone’s Photo Map, go to the profile tab.

That brings me to the next update in Instagram 3.0: redesigned profile pages. They look cleaner than before with a new white color scheme and repositioned elements. Grid view now only shows three photos in a row instead of four and of course next to the two views — grid and list — there’s also a Photo Map view.

The uploader gets a redesign as well. Once you take a photo and play around with the filters, the share page is noticeably different with bigger buttons down below for the services and a new option to add the photo to your Photo Map, which replaces geotagging.

Some other minor changes in Instagram 3.0 are (finally) infinite scrolling, the ability to report users, copy image URLs in iOS, and speed improvements.

Instagram 3.0 is available in the iOS App Store and Google Play, so update to get all of these great new features.
