HTC announced today that for the first time, it will sell a smartphone on regional carrier Cricket Wireless. The handset of choice is the HTC One V, part of HTC’s One series, and it will be available starting September 2, 2012.

The HTC One V has a 3.7-inch super LCD screen with an 800×480 pixel resolution and an external design similar to that of the HTC Legend. Inside, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 1GHz processor and has 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, and a 1,500 mAh battery. There’s a 5MP camera on the back with an LED flash and is capable of recording 720p HD video, but you won’t find a camera on the front. The One V comes preloaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4, the vendor’s own additional user interface layer.

As you can see by the specs, this is certainly no Galaxy S III and it’s not meant to be. It’s a relatively low-end Android smartphone. HTC does boast about two flagship features though. The first is Beats Audio for improved sound quality, particularly when it’s paired with Cricket’s Muve Music subscription service. The other headline feature is HTC ImageSense which “offers fast image capture and better image quality under adverse conditions” thanks to HTC’s own camera UI among other things.

Neither HTC nor Cricket has announced pricing for the One V, but it’s likely to fit most consumers’ budgets. On September 2nd, you’ll be able to pick the phone up at Cricket Wireless retail stores, dealers, national retailers, and online at the carrier’s website.
