Amazon is holding an event on September 6 to announce its new line of Kindles. Besides eReaders and an Android tablet, a rumor from The Verge suggests Amazon may be introducing a new smartphone as well.

The Kindle phone will supposedly run a fork of Android that is similar to the version on the Kindle Fire. It’ll feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and may include Nokia Maps. The Verge was told that the handset is still under development, so Amazon may only introduce the device at Thursday’s event. The only retailer may withhold the details and save them for a future event
