HP's Open webOS 1.0 now available for hackers and developers

HP has finally launched Open webOS, allowing interested developers to try out their skills on the old-new platform. The company released Open webOS 1.0 with core browser and e-mail apps, the Enyo 2.0 framework and all the drivers and middleware required to make the OS work on different devices. To prove this point, HP ported the software to a TouchSmart all-in-one PC.

That’s cool, but definitely not enough. Still lacking are media support, Bluetooth stack, advanced network management, faster rendering, and newer versions of Qt and WebKit. Guess those components will follow shortly, though if you’re savvy enough – you can already start playing with Open webOS. Click here to get additional information you’ll need if you want to take this route. Or check out the following video, demoing HP’s platform before taking any other steps. 😉
