Ice Cream Sandwich now on 23.7% of devices, Jelly Bean at 1.8%

Google has just released the latest Android platform distribution numbers, and it still paints a rather discouraging picture for Android users. Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, the two latest versions of the Android platform, combined find themselves on just 25.5% of all Android devices. Ice Cream Sandwich climbed from 20.8% last month to 23.7%, and Jelly Bean rose from 1.2% to 1.8%. Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which launched just under 2 years ago, is on 55.8% of all Android devices.

Still, even though the platform distribution charts for Android isn’t where we’d like it to be, it’s good to see the numbers for Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean on the rise, and the trend should hopefully continue in the next few months as the platforms are released on more devices, and as new devices come to market. We just wish OEMs were better at updating older devices, some of which may be stuck on Gingerbread for good.
