Rovio’s Bad Piggies takes number one spot in iTunes App Store

Rovio, the maker of the wildly popular Angry Birds game, has another notch on its belt it can brag about. Bad Piggies, the Finnish gaming company’s latest spin-off of the ill-tempered birds, just claimed the top spot in the iTunes App Store. The most impressive part about this news, is the game only needed three hours to take over number one. This is faster than any of the Angry Birds games, and definitely faster than the much maligned Amazing Alex.

The company is on fire. Not only did Rovio set a record for the time it took to hit number one in the App Store, but it earned its third consecutive best-selling release of the year. When the company released Angry Birds Space and Amazing Alex, both games managed to hit number one in their first day but didn’t do it as fast as Bad Piggies.

Of course, Rovio was excited about this accomplishment, as CEO Mikael Hed had this to say:

“It’s been an incredible launch, both for the game and for ‘Bad Piggies’ as a brand.” He continued saying “We have an amazing audience who have shown fantastic support for all of our games throughout the year. Our fans have given Bad Piggies an incredible reception — we can’t thank them enough!”

These guys aren’t messing around. Bad Piggies came out only a week ago, and they’re already talking about releasing the game’s first update in “the next few weeks.” The company says the update will bring a new episode called “Flight Into The Night” that adds “more levels, unlockable content, and exciting plot twists in the pigs’ quest for the eggs.”

If you don’t have Bad Piggies head over to the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.
