Today Barnes & Noble announced that folks in the United Kingdom can now pre-order its Nook HD and HD+ Android tablets. Friends across the Atlantic can hit the company’s Nook.co.uk website to place orders. A month ago, the company unveiled its 7-inch Nook HD and 9-inch Nook HD+; the giant retailer not only showed how its slate is comparable to its rivals Kindle Fire HD tablet, but they also flaunted how affordable it was. The 7-inch model is available in 8 and 16 GB variants, costing $200 and $230, respectively; while the 9-inch Nook HD+ went for $270 or $300, with a 16 or 32GB built-in storage option.
B&N believes that these low price points can tempt users away from the iPads, Kindle Fires, and Nexus 7s of the world. The holiday season is almost among us, so every company is preparing to deliver their best deal or pitch to get consumers to dig in their pockets.
For those of you who don’t remember the new Nooks specs, allow me to refresh your memory. The Nook HD’s screen features a rather impressive 1440×900 resolution, while the screen of the Nook HD+ can display 1920×1280 pixels. Both pack 1GB of RAM and a TI OMAP 4470 processor clocked at 1.3GHz (7-inch model) and 1.5GHz (9-inch Nook HD+). In addition, new Nooks also pack Wi-Fi connectivity support (no 3G), Bluetooth, memory card slot and customers can also expect B&N’s custom UI to be slapped on top of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Both Nook HD and HD+ will begin shipping to UK buyers from Nov. 22.
