Two weeks ago I ranted why I don’t like the new Samsung Chromebook, saying that it’s too heavy for what it offers. Some hate mail (comments actually) followed…
The new Acer C7 Chromebook is even worse, and is everything but easy to carry around. Sure enough, if your main laptop has a 15-inch screen, you’ll love it. If, however, you have a MacBook Air or one of those Ultrabooks (like I do), you must be thinking – what’s the point? If I’m going to have a second laptop, it must be super light. And once again I want to praise Gigabyte for their X11 Ultrabook. (And no, they don’t pay me)
Specs wise, the Acer C7 Chromebook comes with an Intel Celeron 847 processor (2MB L3 cache, 1.10GHz, DDR3 1333 MHz), 2GB of DDR3 memory, 320GB hard drive, 1.3-megapixel camera, 11.6-inchs screen, 3 USB 2.0 ports and HDMI out. All this weighs 3 pounds, which is unacceptably heavy (again – that’s just me). The price is cool – Acer’s Chromebook costs just $199.00 and with the purchase you also get 100GB of Google Drive free for 2 years. Is that enough though?
I don’t think so. My advice is – if you really want a Chromebook, get the one made by Samsung. It has less storage but it boots much faster. It’s also lighter…
