HTC’s flagship M7 handset leaks out ahead of MWC 2013

HTC was waiting a bit longer to let the public feast their eyes on its latest flagship handset, but the device fell into the hands of @evleaks at UnwiredView a little earlier than expected.

Pictured above, it seems to be a prototype rather than a smartphone that’s ready for market due to the lack of any branding. When I first saw it I actually thought it looks like the back of an iPhone 5, except there’s display where the aluminum plate is found. Also curious is that secondary speaker (or microphone?) below the display and if you look closely it doesn’t seem to be completely centered — it’s shifted ever so slightly toward the right side.

The M7 will feature a 1.7GHz quad-core processor and 4.7-inch full HD display. It has an interesting IR port near the power button on the top as well — perhaps to act as a remote control of sorts without relying on third-party software and services.

HTC is expected to unveil the M7 as its high-end flagship smartphone for 2013 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, which takes place from February 25th to the 28th this year. Once again, a lot will be at stake for HTC as profits continue to slip quarter after quarter and Samsung strengthens its reign as the most popular Android device manufacturer.

Do you think HTC will have built the game changer that it needs in the M7? Sound off in the comments section below.
