NEC unveiled a unique smartphone in Japan, one that has two 4.3-inch qHD (540×960 pixel) screens. The first thing we think is Kyocera Echo, though this is a more powerful device, unveiled in the country where people are used to adopting the latest technology (and perhaps unusual form factors). In that sense and unlike the Echo, NEC’s Medias W may have a bright future ahead… though it’s hard to tell at the moment. As you would imagine, the two screens can run two separate apps at once or be used as one giant screen.

In addition, the Medias W also comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, LTE connectivity support, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, 16GB of built-in storage, GPS, Wi-Fi, microSD card slot and so on. Interestingly it lacks support for NFC and mobile TV, which is kinda awkward for such a device. On the bright side, this could easily make it a prime candidate for the Western world. We could hope…

Anyway, interested users will be able to get NEC’s baby from NTT Docomo in April. The price was not unveiled…
