T-Mobile prepares to launch its LTE network at the end of March

T-Mobile is the only major carrier in the US that doesn’t offer LTE service. That will soon change as the carrier prepares to fire up its LTE network at the end of the month.

Engadget, The Verge, CNET, and Laptop Magazine were able to test out T-Mobile’s nascent (and currently unused) LTE network and recorded speeds that averaged around 50Mbps on the downlink and 20Mbps on the uplink. These values are higher than what you will see once the network is crowded and were similar to the speeds on AT&T’s network before it launched publicly.

Before this launch, T-Mobile is rolling out an update to the Galaxy Note II that’ll activate LTE in the device. Currently, the Note II is the only LTE-capable device on T-Mobile’s network. It will soon be joined by the LTE BlackBerry Z10 at the end of the month.
