BlackBerry: We haven't failed the UK government security standards

BlackBerry has denied reports that its latest mobile platform and BlackBerry Z10 have failed to meet British government security requirements.

The Guardian pretty much invented the story, saying that BlackBerry 10 and the BlackBerry Balance software failed to meet the same security requirements that BlackBerry 7.1 met in December last year.

BlackBerry obviously denied the story saying that these reports are “both false and misleading.” What should’ve been the reputable publication pulled its original story in the meantime.

BlackBerry said that its platform remains the only one approved for “restricted” access, which is two levels below “secret,” according to the UK’s Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG) guidelines.

The CESG on its end said that its discussions with BlackBerry regarding the use of BlackBerry 10 in government are “ongoing” and that it has “not yet performed an evaluation of the security of the platform.”

Meanwhile, BlackBerry 10 has been awarded the US government’s FIPS 140-2 certification and was selected by the German Procurement Office and Federal Office for Information Security.
