Google is allegedly trimming the fat from its Play Store by removing over 60,000 apps in the month of February. According to the report in TechCrunch, this number was provided by a company in the mobile app industry that is privy to this type of information.
TechCrunch points out that some of these deletions are from publishers who are pulling older apps, but a number this high has to include a large number of deletions from Google itself. Many of the apps were in the MP3/ringtone category and likely very low quality.
Google is expected to unveil a new version of its Play Store during its big I/O developers conference in May.
