Sprint gives its remaining iDEN customers 60-day notice

Sprint reminded customers today that its iDEN network is going to sunset in 60 days. The wireless carrier announced last year that it will shut down its iDEN network by June 30, 2013 and now that day is rapidly approaching. After June 30, iDEN’s voice, data and 911 emergency services will be cut off.

There should be only a remnant of customers left on the iDEN network as Sprint has been transitioning them off thislegacy network and onto its CDMA network. Customers who need the walkie-talkie service can sign up for Sprint’s similar CDMA service called DirectConnect. Once its iDEN network is shuttered, the carrier will repurpose the spectrum for its 3G and 4G LTE network.
