Boddie is a new smart watch project trying to raise awareness and money through crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The device that connects to iOS and Android devices promises to “bring the balance back to your life” by keeping you notified all the time AND allowing you to quickly cut yourself off from the notifications and phone calls by simply turning your Boddie 180 degrees.

Similarly to other smart watches we’ve seen in the past, Boddie can display all kinds of notifications, messages, and upcoming calendar entries; allow you to control music playback; view and accept (or reject) incoming calls; and act as a fitness sidekick by helping you track your workout progress. There are some novelties included as well that obviously require a dedicated app for smartphone and/or computer. For instance, you will be able to use Boddie to remotely release camera shutter, navigate slide presentations on a computer with simple gestures, locate your smartphone if misplaced and even remotely lock it if it’s lost or stolen. Pretty cool.

Specs wise, Boddie comes with a 1.44-inch screen which is bigger than those found in the MetaWatch (1.3 inches) and Pebble (1.26 inches). There are also 2 MSP430 microcontrollers inside, Bluetooth 4.0/BLE support for connection, an array of sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, 2 thermometers and digital compass), and a battery that should provide enough juice to keep the watch running for 7 days of usage on a single charge.

Design of the Boddie is somewhat controversial — instead of looking like a regular watch, it reminds us on some medical device. Kinda strange but I guess that was needed to allow the screen rotation.

If you’re into smart watches, you may want to support Boddie and grab a unit for yourself along the way. The early bird price is set at $99 and the project will be funded if it manages to raise $100,000. We’re sad to say that these two smart watches doing the same at Indiegogo failed to reach the tipping point. Hopefully, that won’t be the case with Boddie…
