The Google Play Store Has 14 Sub Pop Tracks FREE for the Label’s Silver Jubilee!

Seattle’s Sub Pop Records is turning 25 and pulling out all the stops for its “Silver Jubilee”. The legendary label held a massive concert in its hometown, complete with grunge pioneers Mudhoney performing from the top of the Space Needle. While maybe not so grand a gesture as the concert, Sub Pop has released 14 tracks from its massive catalog for free download on the Google Play Store.

The 14 tracks is something of a survey of the label’s history. Remastered classics like Nirvana’s, “About a Girl” and Mudhoney’s “Touch Me, I’m Sick” bump elbows with modern Sub Pop acts like Shabazz Palaces and Pissed Jeans. You can grab them all for free right now. So go celebrate 25 years of a great record label, and get some free music!

Eric Grandy, who writes about music for Seattle alt weekly, The Stranger, penned the blurb for the Play Store:

Mega-indie record label Sub Pop marks its 25th anniversary with a Silver Jubilee festival July 13 in Seattle, and there’s plenty to celebrate. From introducing Nirvana and grunge to popularizing modern indie rock, folk, electropop and more, Sub Pop has stayed nimbly ahead of trends and launched countless great bands including Sunny Day Real Estate, Mudhoney, The Shins, Fleet Foxes and more. They’ve also maintained their experimental edge, releasing records by such outliers as LA noise punks No Age, chillwave success Washed Out and outré hip-hop unit Shabazz Palaces. Here’s to 25 years of Subterranean Pop, “Loser” t-shirts and avowed “world domination”—and to many more to come.

Yep, Sub Pop’s 25 and the NES is 30. I might just need that Grandma Phone pretty soon!
