Silicon Valley Starbucks Locations Recieve Wireless Charging Stations

Starbucks customers in Silicon Valley will now be able to charge their mobile devices wirelessly. Starbucks is putting Duracell Powermat wireless charging devices in its tables at 10 Silicon Valley locations, which  are compatible with devices that utilize the PMA wireless charging standard.

“More and more customers are using Starbucks as their home base and they are looking to recharge in a number of ways. We have seen positive customer response to wireless charging through our tests in Boston, and are pleased to now extend this experience for our customers in the Silicon Valley area.” – Adam Brotman, chief digital officer at Starbucks

The charging mats will allow customers with compatible devices to grab a quick charge by placing their devices on the power mats. There are currently three competing wireless charging standards across the globe, so the charging stations may not work for all devices. The Duracell technology is based on the PMA standards, which is used primarily in North America and has supporters such as Google, BlackBerry, Samsung, HTC, ZTE and LG.
