We’ve already heard that Apple is working on its very own TV set that could potentially revolutionize the industry. Well, the Cupertino-based company is apparently holding talks with major networks to reach an agreement over content licensing.
It is said that Tim Cook & Co. are negotiating with the likes of ESPN, HBO and Viacom as we speak, though it’s unclear if any deals will be finalized in the near future.
The report goes on to claim that Apple might launch its very own pay TV service, delivering content to subscribers for a fee. This in turn would make it a cable company albeit one that delivers content over the internet.
The rumor is that this service will launch alongside the full fledged TV set, with Apple pretty much repeating what it has already done with iPod and iTunes.
Under this arrangement, Apple would essentially control the entire TV experience on its TV set, eliminating the need for customers to hook it up with a cable box from another company.
Needless to say, none of the parties mentioned wanted to comment on this. Except for ESPN which spokesman Chris LaPlaca said that the talks were “very, very exploratory.”
