HTC delays HTC Magic launch in UK

The T-Mobile G1 may be the headlining Android OS-powered smartphone on market at the moment, but all eyes are on HTC to launch the HTC Magic, sometimes referred to as the HTC G2. As HTC’s second-take on an Android smartphone, the HTC Magic sports sleeker lines and forgoes the G1’s physical keyboard for an on-screen keyboard. We’ve been waiting patiently for HTC to go live with the Magic on Vodafone’s UK network, but new reports indicate that the HTC Magic will be delayed for about a month.

The HTC Magic was expected to join the HTC G1 as an alternative Android form-factor in April. Unfortunately, we’re hearing from HTC and Vodafone that the HTC Magic isn’t going to hit market until May. Vodafone’s internal systems show the HTC Magic slated for a May 1 launch, but that date may be pushed back further still.

From Barcelona to Las Vegas, the HTC Magic has been showed off in prototype form only. The software side of the Magic is still being polished, but it seems that cosmetic changes are to blame for the launch-delay. All HTC Magic prototypes we’ve been shown thus far have featured bar-like navigation buttons, not the rounded buttons that we see in the HTC Magic’s official Vodafone press releases – it could be that changes to the button design is holding up the launch of the Magic. HTC stated in correspondence with Pocket-Lint that the delay is a result of “last minute hardware changes” to the HTC Magic.
