You probably already know that Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chip comes with 4 Cortex-A7 and 4 Cortex-A15 cores. The former are used for mundane tasks like making phone calls, texting and so on; while the latter serve to bring some hard core processing to the mix. The problem (if that’s a problem at all) is that only 4 of these cores can work at once – either Cortex-A7 or Cortex-A15 cores. But that’s about to change later this year with the Korean company confirming that Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) for Exynos 5 Octa is “expected in 4Q of this year.”
As I’m writing this, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 is the fastest SoC found in smartphones and we’re not sure that HMP-enabled Exynos 5 Octa will manage to dethrone it. We are, however, confident that owners of Galaxy S4 smartphones that rock this chip should notice some performance improvements. Or least score better in various benchmarks.
