Plants vs. Zombies 2 Coming to Android in October

Plants vs. Zombies 2, the long-awaited sequel to PopCap‘s 2009 hit, is finally coming to Android devices. The game was released for the iPhone and iPad on August 15th but there was no mention of when it would be coming to other platforms. Today gaming site Polygon caught wind that Plants Vs Zombies 2 would be coming out for Android this October.

Polygon‘s source was unnamed, but was someone close the game. EA and PopCap are bringing the new game to Android soon. Plants vs Zombies 2 continues the casual tower defense (well, yard defense) gameplay of the first but changes the payment structure. Instead of purchasing the game, it’s free.   But it follows a free to play model using micro transactions to make a profit.

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 not only set records for EA, but for the App Store as well. In its first 5 days, the title grabbed the  number 1 top game position in 137 countries, and received a 4.5 rating (out of 5). Plants vs. Zombies 2  racked up over 25 million hours played.

The sequel is currently available for free for iOS devices, and sports a free-to-play model, which differs from the original title’s upfront fee. Looking at the numbers though, it looks as though players are not bothered by the payment model, either.
