As part of its plan to grow in mobile, Yahoo acquired Hitpost, maker of sport-focused apps.
Under the deal, Hitpost’s seven staff will join the Yahoo Sports division in Sunnyvale and San Francisco, working to integrate the company’s technology with Yahoo’s products. Hitpost titles Sports Bet, Fantasy Football Polls and Hitpost.com will no longer operate.
Hitpost is (obviously) delighted about the opportunity to deliver the value “at a larger scale.” According to TechCrunch, it has attracted investment of about $2 million.
Back in October 2012, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer emphasized the need for Yahoo to have a more cohesive mobile strategy compared to the “previously fragmented and unfocused products.” Between October and July the Internet giant increased the size of its mobile team six-fold, driving monthly mobile users beyond 340 million in June.
