LG has finally joined Mozilla’s mobile revolution with a new device called Fireweb. Similarly to other Firefox OS-based smartphones, this is also a low-end product with specs that include a 4-inch HVGA (320×480) screen, 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, and 4GB of internal storage. On the other hand, we’re talking about the platform that is known for not requiring top-end specs to provide users with great users experience… though we prefer reading about the phones rocking Snapdragon 800 or Tegra 4 chips. 😉
Anyway, the LG Fireweb will debut in Brazil where it will be available from Telefónica Vivo for an equivalent of $207. That’s the off-contract price, while those willing to sign-up for carrier’s customer agreement will be able get it for just $59.
After Brazil, Telefónica plans to launch the Fireweb and Alcatel Onetouch Fire in Peru, Uruguay and Mexico. We’ll see whether these emerging economies have the “power” to make Mozilla (and Firefox OS) a global player in the mobile industry.
