Samsung's 2014 flagship devices to boast 16MP cameras

With the exception of Nokia and Sony-made devices, this year’s top phones rock 13-megapixel cameras. So the next year flagships must be better than that. And guess what, Samsung’s high-end gear will reportedly come with 16MP sensors.

According to ETNews (and brought to our attention by G4Games), the Korean company has placed orders for no less than 181 million of these sensors though we have hard time believing all of these will be used in Sammy’s phones. Perhaps some of these will end-up in point and shoot cameras, or perhaps, Samsung will introduce a number of premium models with this kind of camera to further differentiate its offering from the rest of the pack.

Bear in mind this is just a rumor at this stage though we do think both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 will have cameras that are better than the ones used in this year’s models.

Also worth noting – a camera module is just one part of equation. The optics also plays a role and so does the software. We’ll be definitely adding more to this story in the months to come…
