There are quite a few services that allow you to test the speed of your current Internet connection, Speedtest.net being one of the most popular options. Like that’s not enough, FCC wants to have its own app out there that would allow users not only to get information about download and upload speeds, but also to share that data with the Commission.

Called FCC Speed Test, the application will soon hit Google Play Store and will measure network speeds of all four major U.S. carriers.

The new app comes on the heels of FCC’s Chairman Tom Wheeler intention to check the operators’ speed claims and make sure that there is adequate competition in the wireless industry. In other words, by installing this app on your smartphone or tablet, you will be able to help the mobile industry prosper in the U.S. So we say – go get it as soon as it’s available for download. 😉
