Sony’s PS4 launch had an epic day one, selling more than a million consoles. Now Sony has finally released some updated numbers for PS4 sales and it’s more good news for the company. The PS4 has sold more than 2.1 million units!
That’s not too surprising, since the PS4 is essentially sold out everywhere. Gamestop alone recently reported a huge backlog. While consoles are randomly showing up on store shelves and shady dealers are selling them at significant mark-ups on sites like ebay, it’s practically impossible to find a PS4 at MSRP online.
The PS4’s main competitor, Microsoft’s Xbox One has had an equally successful launch. It’s claiming the Black Friday sales crown, as it moved quite a bit more units. But it’s a little silly, considering the PS4 was much harder to find, and had already been out longer. Still, it’s obvious that the Console Wars will probably never have a clear winner, and both sides are making a killing right now!
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House announced the sales number with a short statement thanking the players. It follows below:

PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.
It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
