MediaTek is racing against time, now that 4G is live in China. To achieve this, the Taiwanese chip maker is working round the clock to make its 4G-ready 8-core chip MT6595 available to manufacturers as early as January.

It was previously believed that the company’s first 4G LTE processor would not be available until mid-way through 2014; however, now that China is joining the 4G race, it wants to offer solutions to vendors, making sure not all of them adopt Qualcomm’s products (which have been LTE ready for quite some time now).

According to GizChina, the MT6595 will feature the same 8-core architecture as the current MT6592 chip, and will also come in either 1.7Ghz or 2.2Ghz variants with multi-band network support. Moreover — and again just like the MT6592 — it will sing along WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and GSM networks (in addition to FDD-LTE and TD-LTE support).

It is said that MediaTek’s manufacturing partners are already testing these 4G chips with the idea to launch them as soon as humanly possible. In other words, we may see MT6595-powered devices hitting the market by the end of Q1 2014… or so we hope… More to come, obviously.
