Yahoo Android launcher coming soon?

You may’ve heard that Yahoo has acquired Aviate, the company that makes context-based Android launcher. In my book that translates into the company’s willingness to explore this space and eventually launch its own launcher, one that would compete with the many similar products, Facebook Home included.

From Yahoo’s blog post:

The Aviate team has created a product that changes the way users interact with their Android devices by connecting them to information at the moment it’s useful.

The problem Aviate tries to solve is the number of apps users have installed on their devices. Too often we rely on just a few of them for our daily whereabouts with others pretty much standing on the way until we find the app we need. Aviate relies on user’s location and other sensors to highlight the apps you’ll need at any particular moment.

The application is still in private beta, but it should be available to the general public soon; or so we hope. Meanwhile, Yahoo is offering 25,000 Aviate invites to get some early feedback. In order to try it out, you’ll need to use the code “YAHOO” and you’re good to go…
