Sprint has added ZTE Optik 2 to its offering. The low-end tablet supersedes the original Optik, which was announced two years ago.

Similarly to that model, this is also a rather cheap device, Now Network will offer for just $29.99 with a two-year contract.

You may think “wow, that’s an amazing deal,” but hold on. As we said, this is a basic tablet which doesn’t come with top-notch hardware; it packs a 7-inch screen with 1,024 x 600 pixels resolution, 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 3G + Wi-Fi connectivity, 8GB of expandable storage, GPS and a 4,000 mAh battery. It even lacks LTE connectivity support. And you’ll need some data to go with it to be able to connect to the Internet whenever you want. So we’re not sure this is the right tablet for you. Actually, we’re not sure anyone should get the Optik 2. You’re much better off going for a similar (or better) 7 incher (which you can buy unlocked) and use it in Wi-Fi hotspots only. At least you won’t be tied to a two-year contract that way…
