Google has acquired SlickLogin, the company behind sound-based authentication technology. The system is made to work with computers, relying on a smartphone as the authenticator.
SlickLogin’s tech uses inaudible tones to verify who you are. First, your computer plays a series of sounds that humans can’t hear, but your phone can. The app on the phone then analyzes these sounds, and if everything is ok, it sends back a token to the program on your computer to log you in.
SlickLogin team is joining Google, a company that shares our core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way. Google was the first company to offer 2-step verification to everyone, for free – and they’re working on some great ideas that will make the internet safer for everyone. We couldn’t be more excited to join their efforts.
Not exactly what we would call the “pure” mobile play, but somewhat related nevertheless. We’ll see how Google will implement this technology…
