Xiaomi has finally announced a successor to its popular Hongmi smartphone. Called Hongmi 1S, this model dumps MediaTek’s chip for the one made by Qualcomm – Snapdragon 400, which has four cores clocked at 1.6GHz. This chip also comes with improved GPU in the form of Adreno 305 that should deliver faster graphics.

Rest of the specs are pretty much unchanged and include a 1GB of RAM, 4.7-inch 720p HD screen, 8-megapixel f2.2 main camera, 2,000 mAh battery and MIUI v5 based on Android 4.3. All this will sell for just 799 Yuan, the amount that translates into roughly $130.

The Hongmi 1S will debut in China on February 20th after which it may also hit some other markets, like Singapore. The initial device is made to sing along China Telecom’s CDMA network though we’re certain versions for other Chinese networks are in the pipeline, as well.

Of course, we’re waiting for the WCDMA model that can work on most 3G networks all around the world. At the moment of this writing, we’ve no idea when such Hongmi 1S (or that’s Redmi 1S?) will be released. Hopefully, this will be a short wait…
